Ron and Luke Hester are father and son, carving out a great future together and symbolising the potential for innovative enterprises based on highly polished skills in this entrepreneural corner of England.
In the beginning:
refused entry to Shropshire Art School with no academic quaifications, dyslexia and the second highest mark in Art O'level in the county, Ron transformed his life and created a remarkable business by sheer hard work, commitment and passion for his trade.
Where are we now? Carvers for the Shakespeare Globe Theatre and skilled craftsmen commissioned to undertake intricate doors for a private residence of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.
Why Shropshire? Drawn back to the Shropshire of his childhood, Ron chose Clun for its schools and attractive property prices.
How we grew: Ron began working from his double garage and when space ran out he bought and renovated a Methodist chapel. Sixteen years ago he moved and used a rural development grant to refurbish The Maltings in Clun, creating a huge first floor workshop and a street level coffee shop which is operated by his wife - two businesses in the one productive property
